A vital part of our church life is our commitment to be involved in the community, whether here in the Cape May area or in the larger worldwide community. We participate in the PC USA mission; we have provided a roof for our sister church in Cuba; and we currently sponsor the education of the brothers and sisters of a Ugandan woman who is a member of our church community.
We are the home of the East Lynne Theater
Company; we run a Jazz Vespers series for the community; our Hand Bell
Choir performs at a number of local events; and our church is
responsible for the community Easter Sunrise Service at the beach. Not a Blue Christmas is a community luncheon held at the church in
December for people who are lonely or recently bereaved.
Here at home we
maintain in our church the Community Food Closet, which provides
supplemental groceries to people with a variety of needs. Several
weekly twelve-step groups meet in our church, as do community book
clubs. Our Deacons are active in many projects, including providing
hand crocheted prayer shawls for those in need of comfort; collecting
mittens, scarves and hats for the children in the Friday Night Church
School in a neighboring community; collecting and distributing warm
coats and other clothing; collecting and making available to anyone in
the community handicapped equipment; participating in a community toy
drive; and administering their mission fund.
